Responsibility

Responsibility

From fish feed to harvest techniques, our entire operation is mindful of our impact on the environment. We are proud to contribute to the sustainable future of the industry.

Our Farms

Sustainability is at the center of our operation. We know that to continue providing our product and local jobs for years to come we need to first take care of the environment. We have implemented many practices that help reduce our impact, such as using only low phosphorus feed and partnering with companies that share the same sustainability values. Each year, our farms conduct rigorous water quality, sediment, and benthic community testing.

Fish health is routinely monitored to ensure proper welfare and quality of fish. In the last 5 years, less than 5% of our fish have required antibiotics. This is a notably low number!

Our Processes

The desire to exceed health and safety standards inspired Cole-Munro to vertically integrate our processes from hatchery to delivery. We trace our trout from the moment an egg hatches until the product passes into your local grocer’s hands. Because we harvest fish daily in direct response to order volume, we are also able to minimize the amount of product waste.

Three Pillars of Sustainability

We utilize local relationships to sustain the natural and community ecosystems in which we operate. With each expansion, it feels as though we gain a new partner working to improve the quality of products for customers and economic stability for employees.

Social

When we bring our business to a new area, we work to positively impact all those who we touch. That’s why we partner with locals to sponsor teams, tourism events, and get togethers within our communities.

Environmental

Lake Huron is our most precious resource and we continually strive to preserve and protect the natural environment.

Economic

Many of our trout farms offer economic independence to rural communities in the form of secure full-time employment. The goal of continued, steady growth translates to additional opportunities in the areas where our farms operate.

Traceability

Our relationships with local farmers allow for complete traceability of our products- when a fish ends up on your plate, we know where it came from, what it ate, and how it was cared for.
