Responsibility

Our Farms

It’s rewarding to lead an emerging industry, but the responsibility comes with challenges. As a company, we do everything we can to promote sustainable practices in terms of both our product and our daily operations within the communities that house us.

Most of our trout are raised and harvested from Georgian Bay, Manitoulin Island and surrounding freshwater of beautiful Lake Huron. Sourcing our trout from Manitoulin ensures fresh products delivered to grocers efficiently and regularly, while we only harvest as needed.

Our Processes

Our desire to exceed standards inspired Cole-Munro to vertically integrate our processes from hatchery through to delivery. We trace our trout from the moment an egg hatches until the product passes into your local grocer’s hands.

All levels of operation follow strict regulations from the food we feed our fish to our recycling programs and waste management solutions. With insight from our local partners, we work to continuously improve our workflow. Above all, the environment is our primary focus.

Three Pillars of Sustainability

We utilize local relationships to sustain the natural and community ecosystems in which we operate. With each expansion, it feels as though we gain a new partner working to improve the quality of products for customers and economic stability for employees.

Social

When we bring our business to a new area, we work to positively impact all those who we touch. That’s why we partner with locals to sponsor teams, tourism events, and get togethers within our communities.

Environmental

Lake Huron is our most precious resource and we continually strive to preserve and protect the natural environment. Over the years, we’ve maintained the standard of no significant environmental incidents in its clean waters.

Economic

Many of our rainbow trout farms offer economic independence to rural communities in the form of secure full-time employment. The goal of continued, steady growth translates to additional opportunities in the areas where our farms operate.

Traceability

You likely want to know its origins when selecting fish to serve to your family. Our relationships with local farmers allow for high traceability of our products—when a fish ends up on your plate, we know where it came from, what it ate, and how it was cared for.
